"Through the process of creating this work, I strive to understand the challenges and conflicts that arise with the chances and maturation of the psyche and how it affects the direction of the individual and society. Choice, circumstance, and chance develop these unique paths. The labyrinth becomes a metaphor for individual and societal maturation. It symbolizes a personal journey, on that is a process of growing closer to oneness.

The labyrinth is an ancient symbol that has been used in many cultures and religions to symbolize the unexpected twists and turns of life. I became fascinated with the concept of the labyrinth last spring as I reflected upon the paintings of the previous three years. That work I created of my children described their talents, joy of life, and challenges. It became evident to me how all those elements contributed towards developing a path for their lives.

In my pieces, references to the physical body and symbols of the spirit are created. Impetuous gestures by the hand, often subtly retouched, are integrated with carefully sewn beadwork, collage and painting to provide a variety of textures, form and color.
