Gay Bawa-Odmark“Art is my journey within. Each time I create I am unveiling another part of myself. I often find myself trying to recreate India itself in my work. The dust that stirs constantly in the desert air is remade through gold leaf and iridescent paints. Religious symbols are visual shapes that help me to connect the unconscious and conscious.” Monotypes, jewelry, mixed media collages, lithographs, fabrics and cibachrome images, textiles, bookbinding, photography, painting and jewelry making. Gay finds no exhaustion of mediums in her artist repertoire. Born in Lahore, in what is now Pakistan, where political unrest forced her family to flee to England and then eventually reunite in India. She moved to the U.S. in 1967. The various cultures, religions, politics and languages that were exposed to her in her youth have crafted her art direction over the years. |
